This Pro-Touring 1968 Mustang fastback has everything you could want in a street machine. It is a true performer with great power from its upgraded powertrain. This car handles, steers, and brakes like a new modern car with all of the aftermarket suspension and handling upgrades. The interior is both
classic looks and modern feel with the bolstered seats and modern appointments. There is no denying the absolute beauty and nostalgia of this classic fastback with its gorgeous red paint and bright chrome. But with its sinister stance, 16” wheels, staggered tire width, and throaty performance exhaust note you can tell at an instant that this car doesn’t perform like it’s a 45 year old classic.
It’s the perfect combination of 60’s muscle car looks and modern performance.
Exterior
The undercarriage and the bodywork underneath is exceptional. Absolutely zero rust! The metal work was fantastic when the floors were replaced and the entire underside looks factory fresh in chassis black paint. Not a drop of undercoating is on this car. The paint has been buffed to a brilliant shine that shows off the red finish to great effect. Fresh chrome bumpers are show-quality, and all the little details that make Mustangs so beloved are still intact, including the quarter panel vents and race-style gas cap out back.
The pictures tell the story on the exterior and they don’t lie.
Interior
Lowered seat risers, Scat pro car ralley seats and tracks, B&M shifter, Bolt in 4 point roll bar, Fire extinguisher, Electric windows
Autometer gages (water temp, tachometer, oil pressure) mounted in to stock style gague cluster, Flip face radio, amplifiers, 6 ½ speakers in
kick panels, rear speakers in the deck with custom uppholestered panel with perforations for the speakers. The truck has been sound proofed and custom upholestered has custom sub woofer box with two sony woofers.
Drivetrain
The engine is a roller cam F4TE 351 with a 4bbl intake and Edelbrock 650 carb. A Mr. Gasket heat shield was used to prevent vapor lock. The cam is a
B303 from Ford Performance, in this 351 it has a great power band from 1500 to 5500 rpm, a decent idle, and pulls 20 inch of vacuum. It’s not a big thumping cam with a lopey idle, but it’s also far from being a low rpm RV cam. A high pressure oil pump was used and the motor has 50 psi of oil pressure warm. An electronic Duraspark II distributor was used. It has been curved to provide 35 degrees total timing all in at 3000 rpm (15 degrees base timing, 25
degrees mechanical advance). The distributor is matched to the roller cam by using a steel gear. The distributor also has vacuum advance to have great street manners. A MSD blaster coil provides the high voltage to run the plug gap at .055. A big aluminum radiator keeps the hot small block cool.
For the exhaust the car has long-tube hooker super comp headers, Mr. Gas X pipe and three chamber Flowmasters, the car has a very deep throaty rumble at idle and while cruising but when you lay the hammer down you'll have no problems getting attention.
The transmission is a fresh rebuild with a Performance Automatic Promax Performance Overhaul Kit with upgraded components to handle the greater horsepower and provide a long life. The valve body has a Performance Automatic shift kit that provides solid shifts without being obnoxious. A Performance Automatic 11 inch 2800 rpm stall torque converter is matched to the 351’s cam and gets the car into its powerband quick while still being very street friendly. A B&M shifter is there to select the gears. Finally the rear end is a 9-inch trac-lock rear with 3.50 gears.
Suspension
The front end of this car got a lot of attention. To improve the ride and handling a Global West front coil over suspension with QA1 adjustable shocks was
installed. The front stance is accomplished by using Fat man fabrications 2 inch drop spindles and adjusting the coil overs. The ride height is completely adjustable and if a higher stance is wanted all that has to be done is adjust the coil overs. To make the steering precise a Flamming River rack and pinion steering with a bump-steer kit was installed. Nothing single handedly improves the driving experience of a classic mustang more than rack and pinion steering.
The rear end, while not as complicated as the front, still got the attention it deserved. Global West reversed eye 5 leaf springs and KYB Gas-A-Just shocks were used to drop the rear into its lowered stance while giving a great ride and handling.
With all of the upgraded suspension, the car's uni-body received the bracing required as well. The front end is braced up using aluminum adjustable rod end cowl and shock tower braces. Full length sub-frame connectors were used to tighten up the uni-body.
Four-wheel discs with an adjustable proportioning valve from SSBC provide all the stopping power you'll need, all sitting on a suspension that gives this car the look of a crouching tiger. 16-inch American Racing wheels are hard to beat on this car and are a great choice for any vintage Mustang.
Documentation
Vin# Is available on request. It is a J-Code (4bbl 302) car. I have folders full of documentation and receipts. This fastback is turn-key ready to ride. It run
very strong and built to have great street manners. I made sure that there was plenty of performance to light up the tires at will but also be sorted out and
ride around town without issues. With all the custom touches it is a show winner but with how much effort was taken to keep things looking very stock it retains so much of the classic mustang look.
